Media terms of use

This website makes available digital recordings of heritage objects and works of art preserved by KU Leuven (University Art Collections and Academic Collections and Heritage). The terms of use of these digital recordings are established for each individual reproduction. They take into account the copyright status of the original work and the legal context in which the work was digitised. In the description of each object, you will find the applicable terms of use in the 'licence' field, which terms must be complied with and determine the way you can get started with the digital recording.

The terms of use below relate to the low-resolution recordings offered. If the resolution of the digital recording is not suitable for your intended purpose, you may request a higher-resolution version through a separate application procedure and, if necessary, individual user arrangements may be made (blendeff@kuleuven.be).

The copyright status for each original work was determined with the utmost care. If, however, you believe that this copyright status is incorrect, or that your rights have been violated, you may report this to blendeff@kuleuven.be.
If you are depicted in a particular photo or film or your voice is heard in a sound clip and you believe that your rights have been violated as a result, you may report it and request that this footage be removed at blendeff@kuleuven.be.

BASIC TERMS OF USE

•   The basic terms of use consist of a CC BY NC SA 4.0 licence.
•   You may copy, modify, distribute and/or reuse (not for commercial purposes) the digital recording without permission provided you credit KU Leuven and respect the terms of the CC BY NC SA 4.0 licence.
•   In any instance that the recording is used, it is important not to damage the spirit of the work or the author's reputation.
•   If an original work, despite the care taken by KU Leuven in determining its copyright status, is found not to be in the public domain, KU Leuven cannot be held liable for claims made against you as a result of the use of the recording in question.

SPECIAL TERMS OF USE

•   In a number of cases, you may use the reproduction photograph only within the limits of the conditions of use stipulated in the licence agreement concluded between the owner and/or copyright holder(s) of the original work and KU Leuven, or provided for in another agreement governing the making available and use of the work.
•   The Special Terms of Use applicable to the digital recording can be found with the object in the 'licence' field.
•   By using the digital recording, you agree to abide by the conditions imposed. Even if you rely on the options or exceptions provided in copyright law, you must comply with these Terms of Use. KU Leuven takes no responsibility regarding the use made of the digital recording. Accordingly, you shall indemnify KU Leuven for any claim brought as a result of any use in disregard of the Terms of Use, whether such claim is based on copyright or any other legal or contractual basis.

LIMITATIVE USE

• In some cases, KU Leuven only has a right to share the digital recording with the public via its website.
• You may use this digital recording only in accordance with the possibilities or exceptions provided for in copyright law. In all other cases, you must obtain the written permission of the copyright holder(s). You use the recording at your own risk and cannot hold KU Leuven liable for claims made against you as a result of the use of the recording in question, regardless of whether such claim is based on copyright or any other legal basis.
